Collateral Damage: The Missing Piece of Your Claim

November 19, 2025

Roof damage is the headliner, but "collateral damage" is often the evidence that wins the case. Collateral damage refers to storm damage on other parts of your property.

What to Look For:

  • Gutters & Downspouts: Dents or detached hangers.
  • Window Screens: Tears or holes.
  • Siding: Cracks (vinyl) or dents (aluminum).
  • A/C Units: "Combing" (bent fins) on the condenser unit.
  • Fence: Discoloration or chips from hail impact.
  • Decking: Impact marks on wood or composite.

Why It Matters

Collateral damage proves the direction and severity of the storm. If an adjuster says "there was no hail here," but your downspouts look like golf balls hit them, it's hard for them to deny the roof damage. Plus, you are owed payment for ALL damaged items, not just the roof.
