Preparing Your Home (and Policy) for the Next Storm

November 17, 2025

The best time to prepare for a storm is before it happens. Here are a few proactive steps to ensure you are ready:

1. Review Your Policy

Check your "deductible." Is it a flat rate (e.g., $1,000) or a percentage (e.g., 2% of home value)? A 2% deductible on a $500,000 home is $10,000! Make sure you can afford it. Also, check for "Actual Cash Value" (ACV) endorsements on your roof, which can severely reduce your payout as your roof ages.

2. Document Pre-Storm Condition

Walk around your house on a sunny day and take photos of your siding, roof (from the ground), and fences. This proves the condition of your home before the storm, making it harder for insurers to claim "pre-existing damage."

3. Trim Trees

Falling branches are a major cause of roof damage. Keep trees trimmed back from your roofline.

4. Know Who to Call

Save ClaimFuse's number. When the storm hits, panic sets in. Knowing you have a trusted guide ready to help provides peace of mind.
