What is Xactimate? Understanding Insurance Pricing

November 18, 2025

If you've ever received an insurance estimate, you've likely seen a confusing, multi-page document with line items like "RFG 300S." This is generated by Xactimate, the industry-standard software for pricing claims.

How It Works

Xactimate updates monthly with local labor and material prices for every zip code. It breaks down a job into tiny components (e.g., removing shingles, installing felt, installing shingles, hauling debris).

The Problem

While accurate in theory, the human inputting the data can make mistakes. If an adjuster forgets to add a line item for "steep charge" or "second story access," the price will be too low. If they select "standard grade" shingles when you have "premium grade," the price will be wrong.

Why You Need an Expert

Our Public Adjuster partners use Xactimate too. They speak the same language as the insurance company. They can look at the insurer's estimate and say, "You missed line item X, Y, and Z," forcing the insurer to correct the pricing based on their own software's data.
